The uninstall didn't remove this value it seems. The load failure only made start service service fail Thanks Chris. Chen for posting this, this helped fix a problem with the 'Server' - LanManServer service not starting due to 'Specified File is missing' Error 2.
I would advise that if you do not know of the system registry within Windows, then do not play around with it. I don't have a Parameters folder, either Even engaging MS isn't helping as of yet SO annoying So, with your reply I verified registry in the following location. I found ImagePath wrongly mapped. It probably not best practice to leave it in this state but it may give you an idea of where to troubleshoot.
I have not tried delaying the service at startup. Would the services that rely on this service also wait if I changed this to a delayed start? As this is a Microsoft Standard service I did not want to mask the issue with a delayed start so I was hesitant to try this but I will. Tommylotmangement, this started several months ago, there weren't any hardware changes. The only software change I can think of is I added Acronis Backup. Brand Representative for Acronis. Actually, Acronis Backup requires Workstation service - if anything, our software would try to enable it :.
I tried making making workstation service a delay start but it would not allow me, it gave me an error while trying to change the setting. I ended up changing changing the netlogon, dfsname and acronis services as a delayed start. There was one of the services that would not let me change the deleyed start so I changed it to restart the service. After I did this I restarted and it worked correctly or all the service eventually came up without manual intervention.
To continue this discussion, please ask a new question. The VM was last run over a year ago and the timestamp on vmware. Unless there is a file permission issue then VMware Workstation 15 should have no problem opening a VM from Workstation Can you attach a file list? Quickly looking over your list of files makes me think you are missing 2 disk slice files.
Windows 7 Pro xcl1-s The first one is in the base disk and the second one is in a snapshot. Without those files you cannot open the VM. You might be able put in dummy files, but I'm not the best person to help you with that. Please attach the. Thanks for your help so far, it is much appreciated. I can't imagine how there are missing files as the archiving was done with a backup program that mirrors the "live" folders into the archive.
SidPrice said: "Thanks for your help so far, it is much appreciated. This can happen if the VM was running at the time of making that backup or if one of those files was being scanned by an antivirus program or some of the slices got moved by accident or there was not sufficient disk space or A VM is a bit special in that respect and you sadly found out why I ended up writing a backup program specifically for backing up VM's.
From the looks at the contents of the files you share, you indeed are missing both slices in order to be able to use the VM. If you want to be able to open the VM some data will be gone! After that the "cannot find file" error should be gone, but I cannot promise you that your VM will boot. Continuum Ulli is your best chance on getting the VM back working. Windows 7 Pro xcl1. I can't attach the files because of the limited file types accepted.
So, here is a link to a zipped file:. SidPrice said: "I can't attach the files because of the limited file types accepted. Ugh, another "new forum problem" I'll report it to the people who can fix that. Thanks for letting us know. Wil - your first idea was correct. In fact there are only the 2 slices missing that you already listed. But your good suggestion was a lucky guess.
What you missed was the fact that the basedisk was created when the max-size per slice was smaller than the max size per slice was when the snapshots were created. Looks like the basedisk was created with an older workstation version.
