I got hung up with Security Essentials pop up.
RT still worked in desktop mode. Ran Windows Defender with found a virus and removed it -but still got same hang up; desktop mode still OK.
Next day did Search using Charms of Security Essentials and got the Security Essentials page onscreen - got the SE popup off the screen; the SE popup showed as one of a few windows along the bottom. Deleted this window and now no longer hung up. Tablet and Desktop mode now OK. Found this on Microsoft, I just now ran superantispyware and it found all the stuff the other scanners missed.
No more security essentials pop-ups. Hope it helps. You can contact on for the assistance of this issue, they people are the experts and I am also using the services from them. Try an online WEB Virus Scanner like MacAfee or one of those pop ups are PHONY if your anti virus shows nothing and this happens when you visit a site then the site has a Prankster Web Developer but if you open defender and the culprit shows there then remove it from with in defender.

Then there is a window that lists the 3 problems: Trojan-PSW. A Adware. Fraud The broken English and lack of punctuation are a dead giveaway that this is a virus or some sort of malware. Hoping that the Microsoft folks have gotten wind of this and offer a resolution soon.

Same issue on surface rt. Message reads: "Message from webpage Microsoft Antivirus has found critical process activity on your pc. Fraud there is a box to click to "clean" the computer don't know how to get this off the rt surface just powered it down and turned it back on - gone for the moment.

Virus problem solved. Tested with a downloaded program with a knowing virus. Restoring the Image from my usb recovery drive worked great.
